About Karen
Karen Congram (she/her) is an accessible education specialist, working in Southwestern Ontario, Canada in the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples. She has 30 years of experience, teaching in K-12 schools in Ontario. Karen served as a Learning for All Coach for the Avon Maitland District School Board, supporting classroom teachers to design inclusive class environments; and as a resource teacher and Head of Learning Services in a large, inclusive secondary school.
Currently, Karen is doing research at Wilfrid Laurier University as part of a Master of Education program. She is investigating barriers to participation in school for students who cannot rely on vocal speech to be heard and understood. Karen completed a Certificate in Teaching Students with Complex Communication Needs through the University of Alberta in 2022. She has consulted in schools for multiple students who communicate using eye-gaze technology. Her daughter, Abby lives with Rett syndrome and teaches her mom something new every day. |
