Writers Workshop for Adults with Developmental Disabilities


These in-person classes take place in ten-week blocks of time. Each one-hour class will consist of engaging activities for shared writing, a spelling or grammar mini-lesson, and time to practise conversation skills. Students will have the opportunity to work on a personal writing project to be published.
Limit of 8 students per class.
Students are welcome to bring a support worker or communication partner to class with them.

Winter Book Club

  • For adults with developmental disabilities
  • Meeting weekly online
  • Fees ($250 for 10 weeks) include the book to keep
  • ​Students are encouraged to ask a support worker or family member to read aloud to/with them, following a schedule of 3 chapters per week.

  • Fees $250 for 10 weeks
  • Literacy focus is on shared reading and independent reading skills

One of my favourite literacy activities is to ask students to respond to a photo with their writing. This is an open task which invites input from students of all abilities. Communication partners can to start with shared writing and use expectant pauses to encourage authentic communication.

Short-Term Tutoring to Meet Job Readiness Goals

Contact Karen if you are working on certificate completion and could use some support with reading or writing accommodations. Fees vary based on the type of service needed. Online or in person. Travel expenses may apply.
